Post-renovation cleaning site inspection? Checklist for dust, window sills, and floor protection.

After renovation, even if the floor looks tidy, fine dust may still remain inside cabinets, door frames, window tracks, and baseboards. If cleaning is scheduled before the work is truly finished, subsequent drilling, sanding, or touch-up painting may cause dust to accumulate again. To reduce repeated cleaning, check the project progress, material protection requirements, and scope of acceptance before booking.

Confirm the appointment date with the renovation contractor first.

Try to schedule cleaning after major dust-generating work, installation of fixed fixtures, and handling of large materials are completed. If paint, grout, floor coatings, or adhesives still need to cure, follow the contractor's and product instructions; do not judge whether cleaning is possible simply by whether the surface feels dry.

Inform in advance whether there are construction workers still working on site, whether there is still construction waste, and whether plumbing, electrical, and management office work arrangements are available. The removal of large garbage, mud, and leftover building materials should not be assumed to be included in the general post-renovation cleaning quote.

From high to low, treat loose fine dust first

The treatment order is generally from the higher surfaces downwards. First, remove loose dust particles, then select the appropriate wiping method according to the material. When using vacuum cleaners, ensure that the equipment and filtration method are suitable for this type of fine dust; do not use ordinary household equipment to handle materials that may damage the machine or are unsuitable for vacuuming.

Directly dragging dust particles may leave scratches on some floor or furniture surfaces. Adhesive cement, paint spots, glue stains, and protective film residue should be assessed separately; do not attempt to completely remove them yourself using blades, wire brushes, or solvents.

Don't just look at the floor during acceptance: check four locations in each area

  1. Cabinet interior and shelves: Check corners, shelves, and cabinet door edges that are safe to touch; for newly built wooden cabinets or uncured coatings, first confirm that a suitable cleaning method is available. Window tracks and door frames: Pay attention to dust accumulation, water drainage locations, and fixed fittings. Do not forcibly remove window sashes or exceed safe working height. Baseboards and wall edges: Check for loose dust and localized paint spots, and distinguish between stains that can be cleaned and damage that requires cleaning. Floors and glass: Examine for dust film and watermarks by light, but do not use strong acids, alkalis, or abrasion methods to achieve an unrealistic "brand new" effect.

Wooden floors, stone, and new coatings should be treated separately

Wooden floors should generally not be exposed to water for extended periods; natural stone, new wax, or other special coatings may not be suitable for certain cleaning agents and high-temperature processes. When scheduling an appointment, it is best to provide material information, the completion time, and the contractor's aftercare requirements to confirm whether cleaning is possible and what protective measures need to be retained.

If scratches, chipped corners, hollow areas, leaks, or installation problems are found, they should be recorded and handed over to the construction team for inspection. Cleaning cannot replace project acceptance or repair; do not remove all protective materials before confirmation, as this may affect subsequent leak repair.

    Does cleanliness mean immediate occupancy?

Cleanliness mainly removes dust and dirt, and does not equate to completing indoor air testing. The presence of formaldehyde or other pollutants cannot be judged solely by odor, post-cleaning appearance, or the duration of window opening. Occupancy must be determined based on the actual project, ventilation, product curing, and, if necessary, professional testing results.

If formaldehyde removal or other specialized services are required, the scope of treatment, testing arrangements, and limitations should be confirmed separately. Post-renovation cleaning should not be described as a guarantee of removing all harmful substances.

Please provide area, photos, and special requirements before providing a quote

Please provide the region, unit area, number of rooms, project type, completion date, photos of the overall condition and key stains, and specify whether there are high-mounted areas, special glass, large cabinets, or materials requiring separate removal. Service procedures and prices must be confirmed based on the information provided to avoid discrepancies discovered on-site.
